3rd Sunday of Lent Reflection
This week we take a change in direction in our Lenten Journey. A change has taken place, perhaps like a caterpillar changing into a chrysalis. The transforming is now starting to occur and is a process that takes time and waiting.
We’ve heard the story before, the way Jesus meets a women at a well in Samaria, they start a conversation that will end up healing and the salvation of not just her, but her whole family, and village and all receive a revelation of who Jesus is and begin their journey with Him. When this transformation occurs, change occurs around her, and other see the change and respond.
And so it is with us…. in our journey Jesus is revealing himself to us as more than just a man or prophet, that there is something much more about Jesus, about the coming events that will change us forever, about the sacrifice that has to be made according to the will of the Father. The disciples in our gospel story, take a while to understand the change occurring, and the same can be sometimes said of us. We look to the surface, we look to the obvious, look to the carnal needs, the areas of life that suit us….where we need to be looking is into ourselves, for this is where change starts and ends…this is where Jesus is.
Into our journey, we will meet those for the first time who are newly wishing to become a part of the family of Jesus. Our new catechumens. We and they are coming to believe in Jesus and so from here we will all continue the journey together like the Samaritans in the village in today’s gospel.
