Bishop Pat is appealing to all of you to join with him generously in working together towards the goal for continued growth in Ecumenism in this Diocese through a year-long commemoration of Ut Unum Sint. The Encyclical Ut Unum Sint reflects the Pope’s deep longing for genuine Christian unity and his desire to continue the great work that the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council promulgated through the document Unitatis Redintegratio(Decree on Ecumenism).
All Catholics of Auckland are being encouraged, every parish and religious community, to play its part and to work together towards the goal of fostering growth in understanding and promoting unity among fellow Christians. The Diocese will give you practical ideas in how to commemorate this celebration.
To begin this year-long celebration, Bishop Pat invites you to join with Bishop Michael in an Ecumenical Prayer Service for Christian Unity on Sunday 21st June 2020 at St Columba Presbyterian Church, 480 Ti Rakau Drive, Botany at 5:00 PM. The faithful will be commissioned to go forth, prepare and live the call to Christian Unity – “That They May All Be One”. The year-long commemoration will end with an Ecumenical Prayer Service at Christ The King parish on Tuesday 25th May 2021.
As part of the celebrations we will be hosting Catholic biblical, theological, catechetical and spiritual formation talks throughout the 12 months of 2020 and the schedules of those talks are shown below listing who will be speaking on what topic and when. Please notice we have arranged local and international speakers, and these speakers are theologians, religious and laity, male and females, who have obtained their Doctorate qualifications in their respective disciplines within the Church.
All of these talks will be free public sessions, and everyone, all Catholics of Auckland, are encouraged to come along and be part of this formation. As a baptized member of the Church, a task in the commissioned call by Our Lord, to go forth baptize, teach, and make disciples, what you could do is invite your family and friends, Catholic and non-Catholics, to come along to these interesting and deep faith formation talks. These talks are all designed to strengthen our faith, to learn, and to be ready to go forth and be missionary disciples of Christ.
