When I first arrived at the archive I was confronted with a room overflowing with items transferred to archives over the previous nine years.
I boxed everything and sent it offsite. I spend a few hours a week listing the items. Here are some cool discoveries from this week’s listing.
In 1986 Pope John Paul II visited the country. I came across a three-volume set of the orchestral score for the Papal Mass in Auckland.
Checking the contents of another box I found an order of service.
Inside the document was this photo. The Priest is John Flanagan.
Fr Flanagan was born in Rawene and ordained in Rome 24.02.1941. While in Rome he helped to organise the escape of Allied prisoners for which he received the MBE in 1945.
