Earlier this month I received an enquiry from an architectural firm asking is we had original plans for the Duchesne Building, Baradene College. They were doing some research on the heritage listed building designed by Thomas Mahoney.
You can read more about Baradene College in Margaret McClure’s book Baradene College of the Sacred Heart 1909-2009 (2009).
I found the plans listed in an ‘Old Plans’ folder and located them in our plan cabinets. The architects visited the same day and more than once said, “Wow!’
In total we have 27 plans which on examination appear to be two sets. The architect commented that if the same building were to be designed today there would be a stack of plans a foot high!
The following day the archivist from Baradene came to view the plans. Sarah was my manager when I started work with Auckland Council archives in 2012. She was delighted to have located the original plans.
Amazing to still have these.
Great to have these!
