Reflecting on my Time at Chaplaincy – Molly Florence

When I began working at chaplaincy last year we were based at Newman Hall on Waterloo Quadrant. I initially came only to help out for a few weeks but loved it so much I applied for a full time job, and ended up working here for 18 months. I’m not sure exactly what I expected working as a chaplain would be like, but I can definitely say working here has not only been a lot of fun, but a good chance to further my own faith formation, ask questions, and learn from all the people who end up in here, staff and students. Not long after I began working here we started playing frisbee on Tuesday nights at Albert Park, with students from the university as well as seminarians and others from around Auckland. Christ the light

There are so many different images used in scripture to describe Christ, “Christ the good shepherd”, “Christ the gate”, “Christ the head of the Church”, and each one represents Christ in a different way. The one I’ve been reflecting on a lot lately is Christ the light; “Again Jesus spoke to them saying ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life’”, John 8:12 Lately I have realised the importance of allowing this light to penetrate every part of our lives, that in order for us to become saints and grow in holiness it requires us to live in this light always. This means being able to bring to Christ even the things we are most ashamed of, and we can do this with confidence knowing that he will continue to love us, and that we can …
