Pastoral Care of the Catholic Deaf Community
The Pastoral Worker to the Catholic Deaf Community has responsibility on behalf of the Bishop of Auckland, for the Pastoral Care and support for the deaf, hearing impaired and those involved with them.
Working with:
- Catholic Deaf Community to discern pastoral priorities and set goals
- Volunteers within the Catholic Deaf Community to arrange appropriate liturgical and sacramental celebrations
They also provide appropriate educational programs and training for members of the Catholic Deaf Community so as to empower them to take active roles in prayer, liturgies and sacramental celebrations.
NZSL Gospel Readings
The Gospel of each day is uploaded in New Zealand Sign Language by the diocese through the Auckland Catholic Deaf Community Facebook page.
Mass for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Community
Once a month on the Second Sunday, there is a deaf-friendly Mass held at the Pompallier Diocesan Centre, 30 New Street, St Mary's Bay, Ponsonby. Mass begins at 12pm and is followed by lunch. All are welcome.
Interpreters are also present every Fourth Sunday of the month at the 9.30am Mass Good Shepherd Parish, Telford Ave, Balmoral.
