Last week, in a week of recognition and apology, the New Zealand Bishops asked that a pastoral letter be read at all Masses. The letter took the place of the homily, and was followed by a litany of lament.
Their message is directed to the Catholic faithful who have felt the impact of abuse. The message referenced the apology for the Church’s past response, and though the serious issues addressed may be distressing, they are part of our journey of building a strong safeguarding culture within our Church community.
