As well as a new liturgical year the First Sunday of Advent marks the launch of the Diocesan Mission Map – the framework for our diocesan life. Rather than a big ‘event’ the launch will prayerfully occur during parish and faith community Masses.
Bishop Michael will preside at the November Diocesan Youth Mass. During the Mass members of the Diocesan whanau will be presented with Tu Kahikatea Awards. These awards are supported by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference and promoted, decided and awarded by our local ACYM team from nominations from our faith communities, The Awards are about recognising the gift that youth and young adults are to the Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand, and thanking them for the outstanding contributions they make to their community. They are named after the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference statement – Tu Kahikatea: Standing Tall – A Framework for Catholic Ministry with Young People in Aotearoa New Zealand. Join the Cathedral community for their annual service of Carols and Readings for the Season of Advent with the Cathedral Vocal Ensemble. All are welcome to share this tradition as we journey through Advent. Please note there will be a retiring collection. Validated parking will be available at the Wilson car parks on Hobson Street ($4) and Durham Lane ($2).
All the Catholic Deaf Community are invited to the Poynton Room in the Pompallier Diocesan Centre for Mass that id deaf friendly. Celebrant: Monsignor Bernard Kiely NZSL Interpreter: Felicity Crowe Reconciliation will also be available at this Mass and Mass will be followed by a shared Christmas lunch. The Diocese will provide the meat for the bar-b-que and the salads. Everyone else is asked to bring a desert.
For those unable to attend Christmas Mass Shine TV will be broadcasting Mass on Free-to-air Channel 25 and Sky TV Channel 201. Mass comes from the Cathedral of St Patrick and St Joseph and the presider is Bishop Michael Gielen. Join in the singing beautifully led by the Cathedral Choir and Vocal ensemble.
