FAKE BISHOP PAT PROFILE ON FACEBOOK/MESSENGER

Kia ora koutou, we have become aware today that one or more fake accounts purporting to be Bishop Patrick Dunn have been established on Facebook and Messenger (and may also be operating through email). Please be aware that Bishop Pat CAN NOT send you a friend request and WILL NOT contact you by messenger or email through these platforms.  Unfortunately, there is little we can do but you can help! If you are contacted by a fake Facebook profile, please report this to Facebook and if you are contacted via email please report as spam.  We are trying to do what we can – other dioceses are experiencing the same issues so we are working with them to try and find a solution.

Please see two examples below

• the Facebook Profile has an unusual URL name
• For all who know Bishop Pat – he just wouldn’t enter into a chat conversation like this.

Please be vigilant:

• Check the url of the profile’s link. The only correct link for Bishop Pat is:  https://www.facebook.com/bishoppatrick.  You can see on the screen shot below that the fake link is different (pam.joe.338 – shaded in yellow).
• Report all fake accounts (click on the three dots below the banner/message and choose Find support or report).
• Check the source and email address of any correspondence.
• Do not give out ANY personal or financial information.
