The Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion 2020
Sunday 1 March 2020, 2.00pm,
St Patrick’s and St Joseph’s Cathedral
Welcome begins at 1.45pm with the catechumens and candidates gathered outside the Cathedral doors with a parish representative.
The Rite of Election both closes the period of the catechumenate and marks the beginning of the final and more intense preparation for the sacraments of initiation celebrated during the Easter Vigil. The call to Continuing Conversion recognises candidates already part of the elect moving into a reflective time of immediate preparation for reception into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
It is customary that the names of the catechumens are presented to the Bishop in a Book of the Elect during the Rite of Election.
Those who are seeking full communion in the Catholic community are by their baptism elect. Their names are presented to the Bishop on a parish scroll.
