November 2018 – The Month of the Holy Souls in Purgatory
All Saints Day is Thursday 1 November. Talk about how we are all called to sainthood. Work on self portraits and title them “Future St <child’s name.”
Another great All Saints Day activity is a “Saints and Objects Matching Game” by Catholic Playground.
All Souls Day (Friday 2 November) is a day to remember all who have died. Pray for a special loved one’s soul, visit a cemetery, or do a favourite activity they enjoyed.
The Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica is Friday 9 November. Since St John Lateran is the Holy Father’s church, say a prayer for Pope Francis.
While St Leo the Great (Saturday 10 November) was Pope, the Council of Chalcedon (451) defined that Christ is one divine person with two natures – divine and human. Praise the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is both God and man
St Josaphat (Monday 12 November) is the patron saint of Ukraine, but his life had Russian, polish and Lithuanian influences. Pray to St Josaphat for the reunion of the separated Eastern Churches.
Find an age appropriate science experiment or activity to celebrate the feast day of St Albert the Great, patron of scientists (Thursday 15 November).
Reach out to someone who is sick in remembrance of St Elizabeth of Hungary (Saturday 17 November).
The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is Wednesday 21 November. Follow the link to create a memory game for the Feast Days of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Have a family sing along or dance party to honour St Cecilia, Patron saint of music (Thursday 22 November).
On Saturday 24 November we remember martyrs St Andrew Dung-Lac & Companions. Of the group of 117, 96 were Vietnamese. Pray for those suffering persecution for their Christian faith today, in Vietnam and around the world.
Make crowns to celebrate Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (Sunday 25 November).
Serve fish for dinner on the Feast day of St Andrew the Apostle (Friday 30 November). Recall together that St Andrew and his brother Simon Peter were called from being fishermen, to disciples of Jesus and “fishers of men”.
