Many households will have a set of cookie cutters in the back of a kitchen drawer. Great for baking and often used by the kids with play dough. Everyday objects can take on a different significance when associated with the sacred. That’s what happened when I opened a box labelled MA 8 to find host cutters and host tongs. They were used in the making of the bread used in the celebration of the Eucharist.
The tongs are believed to have been used in Hokianga and were transferred to the archive by Fr Joseph Foley (1923-2009)
