Introducing our Auckland Seminarians
We are pleased to introduce you to our elevan seminarians discerning a priestly vocation for the Auckland Diocese.
MINEVA BOB FE'AO
My vocational journey, sparked in childhood and later reaffirmed through prayer and reflection, is grounded in Jeremiah 1:5, a passage that affirms Jesus’ deep knowledge of me. I draw inspiration from Mother Mary and St Joseph, whose closeness to Jesus guides my path. I value the generous support of the seminary community, staff, friends, and family. In my spare time, I enjoy music and spending time with loved ones.
Fun fact: I am one of nine siblings.
Favourite saints: Mother Mary and St Joseph because they spoke, lived, interacted the most with Jesus.
PETER JANG
Born and raised in South Korea and a kiwi at heart. Rugby is my favourite sport – how kiwi is that! When I was 24, while having a very difficult time I had a profound encounter with Jesus. This lead to the decision that I wanted to give my all to God because it just made sense.
Favourite saint: St Teresa of Avila as I have really appreciated prayer through her books.
REWI PENI
Kia ora, my name is Rewi Pene and I am a seminarian for the Auckland Diocese. I come from the Parish of Te Ngākau Tino Tapu o Hēhu in Waitaruke, Whangaroa. For the past few years I have been a high school teacher in the far north teaching at a full immersion Māori school in Whangaroa. I taught History, Geography, Social Sciences and Music. I love classical, choral, opera and Jazz. My favourite bands are Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles and all NZ Music.
JOSHUA BRODIE
I was born and raised in Henderson, West Auckland. My vocation started when I was deeply praying to Jesus and Mary to reveal to me what their will for me is and getting strong signs and feelings towards the priesthood in adoration.
I have loved every part of Seminary life so far, especially being guided and encouraged by the amazing staff and formators at the Seminary.
Favourite saint: St Faustina – Divine Mercy changed my life!
MATEO ANDREWS
Originally from Argentina, I set out on my vocational path in 2023 after relocating to New Zealand. In 2025, as a first-year seminarian, I'm uplifted by Isaiah 61, a beacon of hope. I draw inspiration from Saints Philip Neri and Thérèse of Lisieux, whose joy and humility light my way. I value the seminary’s warm community and the many opportunities for growth. In my downtime, I enjoy poetry, painting, and singing. Back in Argentina I used to teach catechesis in schools, Here in New Zealand I love camping and getting outdoors.
ANTHONY NGUYEN
I am a second-year seminarian originally from Vietnam. I began discerning my vocation at 20, learning that following Jesus demands constant, persistent prayer. My favorite Scripture is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” reminding me to rely on God’s guidance through life’s challenges. I draw inspiration from St. Teresa of Jesus and St. Anthony of Padua, who teach me about love and humility. I enjoy playing sports like football and billiards, and I have a knack for cutting my own and others’ hair, despite no formal training.
TUAN NGUYEN
My vocational path began as an altar boy, sparked by a deacon’s question about priesthood. His brother’s Augustinian life and a 2019 film about St Padre Pio’s sacrifices deepened my discernment. During the 2020 lockdown, prayer and a retreat clarified God’s call. In 2022, encouraged by a bishop and my priest cousin, I moved to New Zealand, overcoming language barriers with diocesan support. Passing my English exam in 2024 felt like God’s gift. I hold dear Matthew 8:8, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” I enjoy prayer and community.
PETER KHOA HOANG
I was born and grew up in a Catholic parish in the middle of Vietnam. My life is a gift from God, and He always chooses the best for me. He brought me to New Zealand in 2022 and now I am a seminarian for the Diocese of Auckland. Please remember me in your prayers.
